About the University
The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), established on March 1, 2009, is the only central university in the state of Jharkhand. With a vision to develop enlightened citizenship for a knowledge society, CUJ promotes innovation, creative endeavours, and scholarly inquiry. The university offers 21 integrated undergraduate and postgraduate programs, along with 12 postgraduate and 20 doctoral programs, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. CUJ’s mission is to foster transformative change through multidisciplinary learning, research, and innovation, aiming to create a knowledge-driven community with strong ethical values.

PhD Eligibility

To be eligible for PhD admission at CUJ for the 2024-25 academic session, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Qualifying Examination

   • Candidates must have qualified the UGC/CSIR-NET in one of the following categories:

     • Category-1: Eligible for PhD with JRF and Assistant Professor.

     • Category-2: Eligible for PhD without JRF and Assistant Professor.

     • Category-3: Eligible for PhD only.

   • GATE qualification is required for Engineering and Geoinformatics disciplines, with certificates issued on or after January 1, 2022.

2. Educational Qualification

   • A Master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/EWS candidates) in the relevant subject.

   • Candidates with an M.Phil. degree are also eligible.

   PhD Admission Selection Procedure
   The selection process for PhD admission at CUJ is based on the following criteria:

   • Merit List Preparation:

     • 70% Weightage: Total percentile/score in UGC/CSIR-NET or GATE.

     • 30% Weightage: Performance in the interview.

   • Interview:

     • Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview to discuss their research interests and suitability for the program.      • For the Department of Performing Arts, a practical examination will be conducted before the interview.

   • Minimum Qualifying Marks:

     • General category candidates must score at least 50% in aggregate, while SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD candidates require 45%.

   PhD Application Fee
   The application fee for PhD admission is as follows:

   • UR/OBC/EWS (Male): ₹1200 for one program, ₹600 for each additional program.

   • SC/ST (Male): ₹900 for one program, ₹500 for each additional program.

   • PwD and Female Candidates (All Categories): ₹800 for one program, ₹400 for each additional program.

   3. No Double Benefit: SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates who are also PwD will not receive double relaxation in minimum marks.

   4. Application Process: Only online applications will be accepted through the CUJ Samarth admission portal.

   5. Admission Confirmation: Provisional admission will be confirmed only after payment of the admission fee.
